Student safety abroad is the Study Abroad Office's top priority. All of our programs are in countries in which the US Department of State has not issued a travel warning. In addition, our programs are regularly evaluated for their safety, including site visits by International Studies staff members.
Of course the best way for students to be safe abroad is to make sure they are well prepared prior to departure. We highly recommend that you attend the Study Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation. At this meeting, we will discuss health and safety abroad, as well as a wide variety of other concerns, such as packing, passports/visas, and technology abroad(laptops, cellphones, etc). A guess speaker from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will alsobe there to address airport and flight security concerns. Finally, each program will have a breakout session with students who have participated in that program as well as that program's faculty director (if applicable).
If you or your student ever have any questions about health and safety abroad, please feel free to contact our office at (309) 438-5276.
