Parent's Passport to Peace of Mind

Parents

The Office of International Studies and Programs (OISP) has made every effort to provide your student with academic, budget, past-participant and cultural information on study abroad programs organized by Illinois State University as well as those sponsored by other institutions. We also provide resources and personal assistance to students who wish to participate in non-ISU study abroad programs. We encourage students to schedule meetings as needed with a study abroad advisor, to telephone or e-mail us with any questions that might arise throughout the study abroad process.

We hope that your student has discussed studying abroad with you at great length. When students meet with a study abroad advisor, we go through a series of questions and a check-list to gather information and to advise students of their study abroad options. One of the questions we ask students is, “Have you discussed studying abroad with your parent, guardian or family?” In order to help this communication, our office has developed the "Parent's Passport to Peace of Mind: A Parent's Guide to Study Abroad." All parents will receive a hard copy of this booklet at orientation.
