National Student Exchange
NSE Overview
The National Student Exchange (NSE) is one of the best-kept secrets at Illinois State University. NSE allows Illinois State students to do the following:
- Attend colleges and universities outside of Illinois State University
- Receive Illinois State academic credit while attending other schools
- Pay in-state tuition and fees for any exchange school
- Explore graduate school and transfer school options
- Broaden academic experiences
- Gain intercultural experiences without leaving North America
Outgoing: for current ISU students who wish to study at another university
Incoming: for students from other universities wishing to study at ISU
NSE Highlights
- Students can exchange to any one of nearly 200 schools located in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, or Canada
- Students may participate in NSE for up to one full academic year (including summer)
- Many historically Black, Latino/a, and Native universities are NSE members
- Most students who apply are accepted to attend one of their top-three schools
- Classes taken on exchange will count toward Illinois State plans of study
- General Education classes can be taken on exchange
